‘Slow Season’ is a pretty common terminology for fashion industry but pandemic has given an indefinite time limit to ‘lockdown’ leaving us wondering about when exactly will things get back to normal. However, lockdown doesn’t mean we have to sit idle. Working on your craft and updating your skill has no age limit. No matter if you are just a beginner or an established model, there are a lot of things you can do during these ‘slow times’.
Being comfortable in front of the camera & fashion photography is something that needs to be brought into practice. There can be a lot of things responsible for your low self-esteem but all you should know is that there is a perfect job waiting out there for you. For eg- there are some extremely muscular models in the industry or the incredibly heighted ones but those are not the only requirement when it comes to fashion photography. As long as you are fit and healthy in appearance, you are just as fit for the role as anyone else.
Working on the craft
It doesn’t matter how many runway walks you have had in your life or you’re still aspiring for, practice makes a man perfect. Working on your poses, postures, is going to polish your skills. Grab yourself a mirror, put your heels on and make your corridor- your runway. From working on your walks to watching top most runway shows for inspiration, working on your craft can be super fun and insightful. You can even schedule calls with your fashion photographer who otherwise may not get time to talk about your craft, well, now is the time!
Old school research
Apart from discussing it with your best fashion photographer, a research is always a reliable go-to. Pull out some fashion magazines or watch videos, keep yourself connected to the fashion modelling business and expand your knowledge. Work on your confidence and ease up with the camera by practicing and maybe it’s the best time to click a lot of pictures and analyse them in order to figure out your best angles, poses and strength. The more you know, the stronger you will be as a professional.
Connect with the Industry
Networking has never let anybody down. It’s lockdown and people are spending a lot of time on their mobile phones. Be a little pro-active and put up your best works & behind the scene throwbacks, not just to showcase your work but also to let the industry know about you. Connect with your fashion photographer and have a discussion on updating your portfolio. It’s also a good time to connect with best fashion photographers, stylists and designers. Communicating is harmless and only brings opportunities.
